History
Origin
Formed in 2008, Liberty Lies began with Shaun Richards, Josh Pritchett, Adam Stevens and two former members, Matt Jones and Dan Newman. They had known each other from school and had each been in many different 'bands' before they got together and started Liberty Lies. As time passed, they spent the next two years rocking up a storm with gigs, competitions and festivals all around the UK. In November 2008, Liberty Lies reached the grand final of 'The Live Band of the Year' competition in Wolverhampton where, with only a small catalogue of original material, they achieved a second place. As time went on and the band began to grow they managed to get tours with bands such as; Magnum, Black Spiders, Slaves to Gravity, Towers of London and Richie Kotzen. In December 2010, after receiving a maximum point score and being labelled "one of the best unsigned bands in the country" in the Highway 2 Hell competition in Glasgow, Liberty Lies earned themselves a slot in the line-up of Hard Rock Hell IV, alongside bands such as Airbourne; Saxon; UFO; Skid Row; Hardcore Superstar and many more.
''New Addiction'' (2010)
After the tour with Magnum and a four track demo Liberty Lies created in 2008 was re-recorded over a year later as the EP New Addiction', when the band returned to the studio with Magnum producer Mark Stuart. The release was highly acclaimed by fans and critics alike and is currently available on iTunes, Tesco Online, Napster and Spotify. Midlands Rocks said,
Line up change and new material (2011)
In early 2011, Liberty Lies suffered what seemed like a devastating blow when, in one night, two members, who up until that point in time had contributed greatly to the success of the band both resigned with immediate effect, citing external pressures as their reasons. However, the remaining band members were not to be deterred and set about recruiting a new bassist and guitarist. They later found a guitarist and a bassist to replace the former members, Matt Nickless and Adam Howell. They both studied Music Technology at Wolverhampton University with Josh Pritchett, which is where they were found. With the new additions, the band's sound and style had changed drastically and became less of a classic rock 5-piece and more of a modern hard rock band with elements of different genres whilst still keeping the 'Liberty Lies' sound. After a few shows with Heavens Basement, Jettblack and the Hard Rock Hell Ibiza road trip it was time for Liberty Lies to write and record new material for the first time together with the new line-up. The first two songs written were 'Confessions Of An Effigy' and 'Beggars Belief', these were then recorded a few months later with You Me At Six's producer, Matt O'Grady, as an A-side and B-side.
Line up change (2017)
During early 2017 Wolfie decided it was time to move on so the search for a new bass player began. The successful candidate was Miles Bagshaw.
And then there were four (2019)
During the summer of 2019, Liam Billings decided to part ways with the band due to personal reasons. The band decided not to replace him and officially remain as a four piece.
