Lal Jr.


Jean Paul Lal, better known by his stage name Lal Jr., is an Indian film director who mainly works in the Malayalam film industry. He is the son of actor-director Lal. His debut movie was Honey Bee starring Asif Ali which was a blockbuster.

Personal life

Jean Paul Lal was born to Lal and Nancy on 2 June 1988. He has a younger sister Monica Lal who completed her post-graduation from London. He studied filmmaking at New York Film Academy. Lal Jr married Blessy Susan Varghese on 26 December 2013 and they have a son.
Jean Paul Lal is a devout Roman Catholic of the Latin Rite and an honorary member of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.

Controversy

In 2017 a police complaint was filed against Jean Lal for shooting scenes featuring a Malayalam actress without her permission. Jean Lal allegedly used a body double to shoot objectionable scenes in the movie.
The actress alleged that the director used her body double in a way that was intended to harm the actor's reputation.
Jean Lal was also accused for not paying the actress for her role played in the movie and the organization Women In Cinema Collective came out in support of the actress by saying that the act highlighted gender inequality in the industry.
